What Happening in Africa with the African Union.

According to the African Press, The African Union (AU) Commission on Friday urged the coup leaders in Mauritania to cooperate with the commission in returning to constitutional order in that country. The call was made after the AU Peace and Security Council convened late on Thursday a meeting on the situation in that country, which is still under military rule since last August.

Mauritania and Guinea, the two states under coup leaders were on the agenda of this week’s summit in Addis Ababa where African leaders condemned the coups in the two countries. The AU suspended the two countries from the AU until a constitutional order was returned in those two countries.

After convening the PSC meeting, the council asked the commission to take the necessary steps for the effective implementation of the sanctions and to report regularly to it and requested all member states to scrupulously implement this decision.

The council further urged the authorities borne out of the coup to extend their full cooperation to the AU Commission with a view to bringing an immediate return to constitutional order and the quick resolution of the political crisis in the country.
