Valentine's Day during a downtturning economy
So today it's the day which most of the couples like or even love but especially long-time singles might hate.
Valentine's Day is actually one of the most lucrative days for the flower industry. But also the greeting card industry loves it because behind Christmas it's the largest card-sending holiday. I personally think either of them has invented that day to stimulate business.
But what do the people do if they have to fear for their job, are concerned about their debt or whatever the recession let the people worry about? They become creative! Long-stemmed roses are being replaced by homemade cards. Personal jewelry is being replaced by personal poems. And what goes along with that development is: searches for “cheap engagement rings”, “cheap lingerie,” “free Valentine’s Day cards” and “homemade Valentine’s Day gifts.” are “off the charts”!
I think that this behavior is energizing your pocket but not what this day is made for: Love! So please do not save the $3 for a rose because flowers put a smile in everyones face! You can loose a lot during this hard time but no one can take away love.
So please show ur love today and don't hold it back because of some bucks.
One good thing has this obsessed money saving: You become creative and maybe come up with more personal gifts than usually.
Here a the tribute from Linkin Park for today:
